Coming into the NAB AFL Draft on Friday night, like most other draftees, Aiden Bonar was just eagerly waiting to see where he would be beginning his AFL career.

By the end of the night he’d shared a meal with his new coach, toured his new home at the GIANTS and even chosen the number that will don his back when he runs out in the orange and charcoal.

Arriving at the NAB AFL Draft in Sydney Olympic Park, Bonar had an inkling it may be the GIANTS calling his name and was relieved when that was the case come pick 11.

“I’m stoked to be here. I wasn’t too sure sure where I’d actually go … I was just waiting out for pick 11 to hopefully be called out,” he said.

“It was just relief. I’ve had a lot of injuries the last couple of years so just being picked up and starting afresh will be really good.”

Just minutes after learning of his new home, the 18-year-old Victorian and his family were down at the GIANTS’ WestConnex Centre touring the facilities and learning about the club.

Entering the players’ locker room for the first time, Bonar had the opportunity to chose the number that would become his own at the GIANTS.

Bonar is a powerfully built, versatile tall who excels at stoppages and has a burst of speed away from congestion.

He is strong overhead and very competitive and after overcoming two ACL injuries, he returned to school and club football late in the year.

Bonar will join his fellow new GIANTS to start pre-season training on Monday. The GIANTS also selected Victorian Brent Daniels (pick 27), West Australians Sam Taylor (pick 28) and Zac Langdon (pick 56) and GIANTS Academy product and Western Sydney local Nick Shipley (pick 64).
