In the lead up to the 2017 NAB AFL Draft being held in Sydney, we’re taking a look back at some of the GIANTS Then and Now ahead of the next batch walking into the club.

Stephen Coniglio

Pick 2, 2011 NAB AFL Draft

Before the draft

“Bouncy, spirited onballer with great pace and goal sense. One of the best two players on offer. Can create play like few others.” – Emma Quayle, The Age

“Versatile midfielder has been likened to Gold Coast's David Swallow. Hard at it and runs.” – Jay Clark and Sam Landsberger, Herald Sun

The day he walked into the club

"From the first time he walked into the footy club, Cogs would always come up and shake your hand and introduce himself."

"He still does it to all new coaches, staff and players. He’s a thorough gentleman and is driven and wants to be successful and do whatever he can for the footy club." - Brett Hand, GIANTS Head of Development and Welfare.

In the six years since

A Rising Star nominee in 2012, Coniglio has developed into one of the GIANTS’ premier on-ballers.

Named the GIANTS vice-captain in 2017 after a breakthrough season in 2016 that saw him poll 17 Brownlow votes, Coniglio will be looking forward to a full season in 2018 after ankle injuries restricted him to just 10 games this year.
