As the GIANTS prepare for their penultimate game of the premiership season on Saturday against the West Coast Eagles at Spotless Stadium, we take a look at the stats that matter ahead of the big clash.
The Eagles prefer to dispose of the ball by foot rather than by hand. Over the past month their kick to handball ratio has been 1.4, while they rank third for general kicks going forward with 91.2 per cent of their kicks headed towards their attacking fifty.
West Coast don’t just kick it forward, they love to attack through the middle of the ground. The Eagles use the corridor for their attacking movements 25 per cent of the time, ranking them third in the competition when it comes to using this method.
On the other hand the GIANTS are the best side in the competition when it comes to moving the ball along the boundary. The home side hug the boundary in 61.2 per cent of their attacks.
Saturday’s game will be a meeting of two of the highest stoppage teams in the competition over the past month. The GIANTS rank second in the league for stoppages at 74.2 per game while the Eagles are in fourth spot at 66 per game.
This means both sides will need to be at their best when it comes to winning clearances and the contested possession account if they’re to win the game.
Saturday’s Spotless Stadium crowd will also bear witness to two of the most efficient scoring teams in the competition. 50.3 per cent of West Coast’s inside 50’s result in scores, seeing them ranked seventh in the league.
The GIANTS on the other hand have been even more efficient, with 52.9 per cent of their inside 50’s resulting in scores across the past month, ranking them as the third best team in the competition in this area.
