After 12 straight losses to start the year, the Auburn GIANTS Under 14s could have been forgiven for thinking they wouldn’t get the chance to sing their team song this season.

GIANTS forward Devon Smith travelled to Auburn GIANTS training a fortnight ago to speak with the team made up of kids from a number of different multicultural backgrounds, all mostly new to the game.

Smith took the opportunity to pass on some of his knowledge gained throughout his 107-game career ahead of the Auburn GIANTS’ clash with the East Coast Eagles.

Regarded as one of the most dangerous small forwards in the AFL, Smith was more than happy to show the young GIANTS some of his skills around the big sticks that has seen him become one of the GIANTS' best goal sneaks.

Not only that, Smith left the side with a promise.

I'll come back to training when you win your first game.

Call it the Devon Smith effect, or maybe something else, but the incredible happened.

The Auburn GIANTS U/14s claimed their first victory of the season with a 16-point win over the East Coast Eagles.

Sticking true to the promise he made to the young boys, Smith went back to Auburn to celebrate with the team.
