As the GIANTS prepare to take on Fremantle on Saturday at Spotless Stadium, it's worth looking back at the albiet short history between the two clubs.

After four unsuccessful trips to the west to face the Dockers, the GIANTS’ 18-point win last season proved to be a landmark moment in the club’s history.

The victory over the 2015 minor premiers at Domain Stadium in round seven, 2016 was the first of many milestones achieved along the way to the GIANTS’ first finals appearance.

Stephen Coniglio claimed the three Brownlow votes that night with an inspired 32 disposal and two goal performance, and the prospect of the GIANTS’ vice-captain making his AFL return this weekend could spell trouble for the men in purple.

This Saturday will be just the second time the two sides have met at Spotless Stadium, with the GIANTS claiming a 92-point win in round 22, 2016 – their biggest of the season thanks to a career best six-goal haul by Jonny Patton.

Just five GIANTS that made the club’s inaugural trip to Perth in round 17, 2012 to face Fremantle are expected to line-up this weekend.

Callan Ward, Nathan Wilson, Nick Haynes, Phil Davis and Tom Scully all took the field at the then-Patersons Stadium, with the more experienced Dockers outfit claiming a 95-point win.

There will be one familiar face that will run out onto Spotless on Saturday, with former GIANT Cam McCarthy set for a likely match up with Haynes or Davis.

After playing 21 games for the GIANTS between 2014-2016, McCarthy took time away from the club in 2016 as he went home to Perth to deal with mental health issues.

Following the 2016 season, the GIANTS and Dockers agreed to a trade for McCarthy, with the GIANTS receiving four draft picks in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft – one of which helped secure Academy product Will Setterfield.

Rhys Palmer spent four years with the Dockers before joining the GIANTS in their debut season in 2012, with the small forward playing 69 games and kicking 72 goals in orange and charcoal before being traded to Carlton at the end of 2016.
