Midfielder Will Settefield will become the 81st player to pull on a GIANTS jumper when he makes his AFL debut against Richmond at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.

The 190cm GIANTS Academy graduate – who was selected with pick five at the 2016 NAB AFL Draft – becomes the club’s fifth debutant this season.

Setterfield said he had no idea he’d be making his debut despite being named in the GIANTS’ 25-man squad on Thursday night.

“It was sort of in limbo the last couple of days I wasn’t sure if I was in or out,” he said.

“Leon called me into the club this morning and gave me the nod.

“It’s a dream come true, I can’t wait to get out there on Sunday and play alongside a great bunch of boys.”

Originally from Albury in southern NSW, Setterfield signed a two-year contract extension in June alongside fellow 2017 debutants Harry Perryman and Tim Taranto.

The 19-year-old said he’ll tapping into their experiences in preparation for his debut at the hallowed MCG on Sunday.

“I’ve never played at ‘the G’ before, it’s the best ground to play at so I’ll be a bit nervous on game day,” he said.

“My housemate and one of my best mates Tim played a lot of games at the start of the year so I’ll be asking him a lot questions today.

“Pez (Harry Perryman) will be out there with me so it’ll be good to be playing with him.”

The GIANTS take on Richmond at the MCG on Sunday July 23 at 1.10pm.
