GIANTS Academy member Brendan Myers has been awarded the Round 14 NEAFL Rising Star nomination for his superb performance against NT Thunder at Spotless Stadium.

The Wagga Tigers product was the leading possession winner on the ground with 32 disposals, plus nine marks, seven clearances, and six inside 50s in the GIANTS Reserves' four-point loss.

The 18-year-old’s impressive effort saw Myers recalled to the Allies side for the final match of the NAB AFL National Under-18 Championships against Victoria Metro in Geelong on Wednesday.

Myers, who won Wagga’s senior best-and-fairest award when he was 17, said his return to form in the NEAFL at the weekend gave him a lot of confidence.

“It was a bit unfortunate to be dropped from the Allies, but I wanted to move on and have a crack in the NEAFL,” he said.

“It’s been a good learning experience the past week. It just goes to show that you can turn things around pretty quickly.

“I just want to go as hard as I can for as long as I can for the rest of the year and see what happens.”

Myers is the first GIANTS Reserves' player to be nominated for the award this year.

The Rising Star is awarded to the most promising young talent in the NEAFL competition.

Nominees must be under the age of 21 and played less than 20 senior games (excluding games as AFL Academy players) at the start of the 2017 season.
