Debutant Jeremy Finlayson will be sidelined for at least six weeks after suffering a knee injury in his first AFL game.

Finlayson hurt his knee in a tackle during the second quarter and was unable to play out the game. Scans on Sunday confirmed a medial ligament sprain which will still give him an opportunity to return to the field this season.

“He’s a young kid who over two and a half years has got better and better every week he’s gone and then to go down half through the second quarter, it’s disappointing,” said coach Leon Cameron after the game.

“But he’ll learn from those 40-50 minutes of AFL footy, put his head down and bum up again, rehab really well and get another opportunity.”

Sam Reid also suffered an ankle injury late in Saturday night’s draw with Geelong and despite returning to play out the game, the former rookie will face a fitness test for this weekend.

Forward Toby Greene (ankle) and defender Zac Williams (hamstring), who were both late withdrawals in round 15, will also face tests to be available for selection for the GIANTS’ trip to Launceston to face Hawthorn.

The GIANTS take on the Hawks in Tasmania on Saturday at 1.45pm with live coverage on 7mate into NSW and the ACT and Fox Footy all around Australia.
