Stats That Matter: Western Shootout
The stats show Domain Stadium could play host to a full forward shootout between the GIANTS’ Jeremy Cameron and West Coast’s Josh Kennedy.
As the GIANTS prepare to take on West Coast in Perth, we take a look at the stats that could decide if visitors can finally get their first win over the Eagles on Sunday.
The most intriguing stats have to be to the ones surrounding the two most in form key forwards in the competition.
Domain Stadium will play host to a potential full forward shootout between West Coast’s Josh Kennedy and the GIANTS’ Jeremy Cameron.
The duo are tied for the Coleman Medal on 31 goals each and they’re also equal first in the competition for goals kicked in the past four weeks of football with 15 goals each.
Kennedy is shooting for his third straight Coleman Medal and has been a focal point of the Eagle’s attacking movement, ranked first in the AFL as the most targeted forward.
As a result of his midfielders seeking out Kennedy when they head inside 50, he leads the competition for marks inside 50.
Kennedy isn’t just kicking goals either, he’s third in the competition for scoreboard impacts (that’s goals, behinds, goal assists and behind assists.).
Cameron on the other hand is ranked fourth for both marks inside 50 and scoreboard impacts.
Both power forwards are ranked inside the top 10 for disposals inside 50.
While the Cameron/ Kennedy duel will be one to watch there are plenty of other stats that could impact the outcome of the game.
The GIANTS will need to be precise with their kicking as the Eagles have been racking up intercept marks over the past month, seeing them ranked second in the competition.
Jeremy McGovern (4th) and Elliot Yeo (11th) both rank inside the top 20 of the competition for intercept marks.
Both sides hit the scoreboard when coming out of defensive 50, with the GIANTS ranked first in the AFL over the past month for percentage of scores coming from rebounds while the Eagles are ranked second.
