GIANTS' coach Leon Cameron is confident that his side will be ready to tackle West Coast in Perth on Sunday despite the team’s growing injury list.

With his side still searching for their first win over the Eagles, Cameron believes his side is well prepared to take on a team that is still smarting from their loss to Essendon last week.

“Right now we feel as though all the guys we are bringing in are ready for AFL footy and it will be no different this week,” Cameron said.

“There’s no doubt there are a number of players in a development phase in their career but with our injuries it provides opportunity for the guys coming into the team.”

Veteran Steve Johnson, who has been managing a knee problem all season, will miss the trip to Perth and Cameron admitted that it was a risk playing him against the Tigers.

"We rolled the dice with him last week even though he probably shouldn't have played, the knee is getting pretty bad at the moment," he said.

"In saying that, I also backed Steve in as we have done a number of times and I think a number of clubs do that with one or two players every week.

"It's restricting him a little bit, but hopefully we can get it right over the next seven to 14 days."

Cameron said the club might look to rest the 2007 Norm Smith medalist for their match against Carlton in round 12.

With that game leading into a bye in round 13, Johnson would have more time to get his knee right.

"I think if you have a full list of players you get that opportunity, but I don't think we're in that position at the moment," he said.

"If he's right to go in one or two weeks we'll play him, going on results and where we're at, and what our form is like in the ones."

Cameron confirmed that Matthew Kennedy will return to the side to replace Johnson and Rory Lobb’s (groin) spot could be filled by one of Harry Himmelberg, Dawson Simpson or Tim Mohr who’ve all impressed in the NEAFL lately.
