GIANTS defender Nick Haynes will be sidelined for around 10 weeks due to a tear in his hamstring tendon.

Haynes suffered the injury when he landed awkwardly in the dying stages of the GIANTS two-point victory on Friday night.

The 24-year old has been a key part of the GIANTS backline early in 2017, averaging 19.3 possessions and 7.5 marks per game.

Haynes’ injury won’t require surgery at this stage.

GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce said: “We’re all really disappointed for Nick who’s been in terrific form early in the season.

“We’ll now map out the right program for him to ensure he returns to the field in peak condition later in the year.”

Scans over the weekend cleared ruckman Shane Mumford (ankle) and defender Aidan Corr (buttock) of significant injuries while forward Sam Reid’s hamstring will be monitored during the week.

Co-captain Phil Davis missed the round six match as a precaution with a minor hamstring injury and his availability will be known later in the week.

Vice-captain Stephen Coniglio will be in the mix for selection for this Friday night’s game against St Kilda having overcome an ankle injury.

Haynes will join Ryan Griffen (ankle), Brett Deledio (calf), Tendai Mzungu (hamstring) and Will Setterfield (ankle) as players in the rehabilitation group working towards returning to the field in the coming weeks.
