The GIANTS’ AFL Women’s preparations will step up a gear as they take on the Brisbane Lions in a practice match at Griffin Park, Coorparoo on Saturday.

With just two weeks until their opening NAB AFLW fixture against Adelaide, the practice match shapes as the first real test for the GIANTS squad.

Saturday’s match will be the first time the GIANTS have tested their abilities against other AFLW talent and the first time they will have played a full match together as a team.

The GIANTS have had some match practice with the squad split into two teams for an intra-club match at Tom Wills Oval last Friday.

The clash with Brisbane will also be the first time the GIANTS’ newly appointed captain Amanda Farrugia and her leadership group will be on show.

Brisbane boasts a strong side with marquee signings Taylor Harris and Sabrina Frederick-Traub to test the GIANTS’ defensive unit.

The Lions have had a busy preseason, announcing Emma Zielke as their captain last Wednesday.

The match also presents GIANTS AFLW coach Tim Schmidt with his first opportunity to test his match tactics and become more familiar with having 16 players on the field.

The GIANTS AFLW practice match against the Brisbane Lions begins at 3.30pm AEDT at Griffin Park, Coorparoo on Saturday to stay up to date with the match follow the GIANTS on Facebook and Twitter.
