With one round of the AFL Home and Away season to play there are multiple machinations to play out before the GIANTS know exactly who and where they are playing in the first week of their maiden finals series.

With the final eight all but decided - barring the Saints winning by 25 goals and the GIANTS beating North Melbourne by the same margin - the final positions of the sides within that eight could change drastically at the conclusion of Round 23.

Here are the scenarios for the GIANTS.

If the GIANTS win:

1. They could finish Top

The best case scenario for the GIANTS would be for them to beat North Melbourne by at least 30-points and all of the teams above them to lose .

If that was to happen the GIANTS would finish the 2016 Premiership Season as Minor Premiers.

2. They make the Top Four

If the GIANTS win and either Adelaide or Geelong lose their respective games, it would see them GIANTS move to at least fourth and secure a double chance.

3. They stay where they are.

If the GIANTS beat North Melbourne and all the teams above them win, the ladder will be left unchanged.

That scenario would see the GIANTS playing against the Kangaroos again, in an Elimination Final at Spotless Stadium.

If the GIANTS lose:

1. They could finish seventh

For that to happen the GIANTS would have to lose to the Kangaroos, West Coast beat Adelaide and the Bulldogs defeat Fremantle.

It would mean the GIANTS miss out on the coveted home Elimination Final.

2. They could finish sixth

It's pretty simple; if Bulldogs beat Fremantle and West Coast lose to Adelaide the GIANTS finish in sixth spot. It wouldn't be pretty but it would mean the GIANTS would host a home final against North Melbourne.

3. They could stay where they are

Both West Coast and the Bulldogs lose their fixtures, setting up a chance for the GIANTS to avenge the Round 23 loss to North Melbourne in a do-or-die Elimination Final.

But as they say, in football anything can happen.

The GIANTS play North Melbourne at 7.25PM (EST) on Saturday at Etihad Stadium.
