With the GIANTS and Fremantle meeting at Spotless Stadium for the first time, we take a look at the key stats that may make a difference come Saturday afternoon.

A quick look at the stats shows the GIANTS are ahead of Fremantle in many aspects, however the visitors from the far-west do have some weapons in their arsenal.

The young Dockers - seven players in their lineup have played 25 games or less - have a tall forward line with Michael Apeness (200cm) and Mathew Taberner (199cm) more than capable of taking a contested mark.

If Taberner or Apeness can't take their chances there is always Fremantle's fleet of small and speedy forwards - led by Michael Walters who kicked five goals in their loss to Adelaide - who can swoop on the loose ball and wreak havoc.

Fremantle Coach Ross Lyon is more than aware of this with his side ranked number three for ground ball gets inside their forward 50.

This is assisted by his side's willingness to kick long to a contest with Fremantle leading the AFL for long kicks.

If the Dockers’ group of small forwards can't make the most of the loose ball, they aren't afraid of battling for the football around the stoppage.

Without behemoth ruckman Aaron Sandilands in the side, Fremantle are likely to implement the use of a third man up.

They were top of the AFL for using a third man up when Sandilands was sidelined with an injury earlier in the season.

Fremantle are solid around the stoppages, ranked sixth in the competition for hard ball gets and they'll need to be winning a lot of contested football in their defensive half.

The GIANTS are equal league leaders for inside 50s with 58 per game while Fremantle are last with only 45.9 per game.

And of course a lack of forward entry means a lack of scoring.

The GIANTS are ranked second in scoring with an average of 108 points per game this season, a big contrast to the Dockers who are ranked 16th with 73 points per game.

Fremantle has kicked 100 points in a game only three times this season.

The GIANTS take on the Fremantle Dockers for the very first time on their home deck with the clash to begin at Spotless Stadium at 4.35pm on Saturday.
