Running defender Nathan Wilson will remain on the sidelines for at least the next fortnight due to groin soreness.

Wilson, who has cemented his spot in the GIANTS’ best 22 as a dashing defender, missed his first game of the season when he didn’t line up against Collingwood last weekend.

The 23-year old is expected to miss the next 2-3 weeks.

Ryan Griffen, another player who didn’t play in round 16, is expected to miss a further 3-4 weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Griffen didn’t line up for the GIANTS in the loss to Collingwood after suffering the injury at training and scans revealed the 29-year-old will be sidelined for the next few weeks.

In better news, defender Tim Mohr could line up for the WSU GIANTS in Brisbane this weekend after spending seven weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Mohr was the match day runner for the WSU GIANTS last weekend and will undergo a fitness test later this week to assess his availability for Sunday’s NEAFL match.

Forward James Stewart, who kicked five goals for the WSU GIANTS and was named in the best last weekend, will undergo a fitness test later in the week after sustaining a concussion in the win over Southport.

The NEAFL match saw both Will Hoskin-Elliott and Caleb Marchbank make successful returns from long injury layoffs, with Hoskin-Elliot kicking two goals and Marchbank collecting 22 possessions down back.

In other injury news, defender Matt Buntine is still 1-2 weeks away from a return after injuring his hamstring in the round 14 win over Carlton.

Fellow defender Aidan Corr is continuing his recovery from a long-term ankle injury but still 2-3 weeks away from selection while young first-year midfielder Jacob Hopper will spend another 4 weeks on the sidelines as he recovers from a minor stress fracture in his back.
