It's more than two weeks away but Lance Franklin is already excited about the monster AFL derby showdown looming between Sydney and GIANTS.

With expansion prodigies GWS sitting one spot on the AFL ladder higher than the Swans in third place, the June 12 clash at Spotless stadium looms as the most-significant Sydney Derby yet.

And it certainly hasn't escaped the attention of Swans superstar Franklin, who had been widely tipped to join the GIANTS before signing his mega-deal with Sydney.

"It's great to see GWS doing so well and, in a couple of weeks, we've got that game out at Spotless - it's going to be a cracking game," said Franklin.

"We're both in the top four at the moment so, if we can keep that form going for both teams, it will be really good."

Unlike some teammates, Franklin wasn't reluctant to discuss the GIANTS’ impressive rise in form in 2016, which could possibly result in the teams clashing again in the finals.

"They are a quality team, aren't they?" he said.

"They've all matured now and they've got guys that have played 70 to 80 games now and they are playing really good, but I'm happy at Sydney Swans."

The Sunday, June 12 clash seems guaranteed to smash the GIANTS’ Spotless Stadium crowd record of 17,507, set in round 21 last year against the Swans.

But, with a bigger ground, they could possibly have challenged their home match record of 38,203, set in the club's AFL debut match in round one against the Swans in 2012 at ANZ Stadium.

However, the GIANTS insist they wouldn't want to give up their Spotless Stadium home-ground edge even if they could at this late stage.
