The GIANTS’ draftees have taken to the kitchen to see who will be crowned the GIANTS’ Masterchef as part of their Settling in Sydney program.

Jacob Hopper (pick 7), Matthew Kennedy (pick 13), Harrison Himmelberg (pick 16) and Matthew Flynn (pick 41) arrived at the GIANTS in last year’s NAB AFL Draft.

Within two days of the draft, the NSW born and bred quartet moved to Sydney to begin their lives as professional footballers.

As part of the club’s Settling in Sydney program, the youngsters are taught basic life skills which are also aimed at fast-tracking their football and personal development.

Over the past fortnight the close friends have had cooking skills classes at their homes in Breakfast Point, run by GIANTS Cafe owner and chef Tony Crossin with the help of GIANTS dietician Jessica Spendlove and Welfare Manager Dylan Addison.

The four-week program will culminate in a Masterchef-style cook-off between the households - Hopper and Flynn v Kennedy and Himmelberg.

Himmelberg, who turned 20 on Sunday, is a hot favourite to take out the championship, as the only member of the group who has lived out of home before arriving in Sydney.

Kennedy, however, has aspirations of being a Masterchef and has a reputation for cooking everything in a sandwich press - from toast to steaks and lamb cutlets.

But, we wouldn't advise eating a whole chilli again - He found that one out the hard way.
