For the first time in history, the GIANTS are set to field the same 22 for the second week running as they head west to face Fremantle on Saturday night.

After a stunning performance across the board against the Hawks, coach Leon Cameron has opted for the same side this week.

The GIANTS have never had the same team two weeks in a row in 94 games and four and a half years in the competition.

They named the same side in rounds six and seven last year but co-captain Phil Davis was a late withdrawal, ruining the record.

“It’s good, obviously coming off a win,” coach Leon Cameron said.

“There’s some players knocking at the door. Every footy club has four or five players who are knocking on the door and unlucky to get in at times but their turn will come.

“The guys that are playing at the moment are playing some pretty good footy.”

The fifth-placed GIANTS come up against the winless Dockers but it’s a team the club has never beaten, and a ground where the GIANTS have never tasted victory.

“You’re only as good as your last week and last week was obviously pretty good for us but this week’s 48 hours away and we play Fremantle and we know they’re going to be hungry,” Cameron said.

“They’re aggressive, contested ball, they’ve done a lot of work on their stoppages over the last three or four weeks so it’s going to be a huge challenge for us.

“We’ve struggled with them in the past so it’s a big challenge for us to travel and back up and turn up week after week and that’s the stage we need to go through.”

ROUND 7 INSIGHT WITH LEON CAMERON

Co-captain Callan Ward will line up in his 150th AFL game against the Dockers, nine seasons after being drafted at pick 19 by the Western Bulldogs in the 2007 draft.

The 26-year-old joined the GIANTS as an uncontracted player selection ahead of the GIANTS’ inaugural season and has now played 89 games for the club.

“He’s a fine leader, him and Phil have really grasped the captaincy roles over the past few years and they’ve grown every year,” Cameron said.

“We know what we’re going to get footy-wise, he’s a combative player, he’s likes the contest but more and more, he’s understanding what a captain’s role is; that is to obviously make sure he understands all structures and he can pick players up when things aren’t working.

“Off-field he’s very very good with our players so it’s a fine achievement to play 150 games.

“Hopefully our boys can take a little bit of Callan Ward and display that character he has on Saturday night.”

The GIANTS will take on the Dockers at Domain Stadium on Saturday night at 8.10pm AEST (6.10pm Perth time). They’ll hold an open training session at the stadium on Friday afternoon with gates open from 3.30pm with all members and fans welcome to attend.
