Background: Jacob Townsend joined the GIANTS as a 2011 NSW-ACT zone selection and made his debut for the club in Round 1, 2012.

Best Game: AFL Round 23 v Melbourne - 22 touches, 3 marks, 6 tackles, 4 clearances and 1 goal.

Summary: It was a horror start to 2015 for courageous midfielder Jacob Townsend who sustained a foot injury in the NAB Challenge and missed the first three months of the season. The 22-year-old made his return in June and didn’t take long to regain his form. He played 10 games in the NEAFL including three consecutive matches where he was named in the UWS GIANTS’ best three players. Just when he looked all but certain for a senior recall in Round 19 he suffered a concussion and was forced to endure another set-back. We he finally got an opportunity at AFL level he was named as one of the GIANTS’ best players against Melbourne.

Pat On The Back: Townsend epitomises handwork and dedication. He never gave up despite several hurdles to overcome this season.

What They Said: “Jacob has been very unlucky this year through injury so it’s a credit to him for never giving up. His form in the NEAFL has been impressive and he’s been around the mark for quite some time.” - GIANTS Coach Leon Cameron.

Look Ahead: After playing only 11 matches this season (NEAFL and AFL combined) Townsend will be looking to string together a more consistent year without as many injuries. He seems to have overcome his foot complaint and will hopefully be able to complete a full pre-season.
