GIANTS veteran Ryan Griffen will miss the club’s round 23 match against Melbourne with a knee injury.

Scans revealed that Griffen suffered a grade two medial ligament injury in the third term of the GIANTS’ win over Carlton at Spotless Stadium on Saturday.

Griffen, who hasn’t missed a game this season, won’t require surgery and is expected to be available for the beginning of pre-season training in November.

Meanwhile, rookie-listed midfielder Sam Schulz won’t play again this season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in Saturday’s NEAFL match.

The 22-year old suffered the injury in the second term of the UWS GIANTS match against Sydney University at Spotless Stadium.

Schulz, who was one of the first players signed to the GIANTS, will meet with a knee specialist on Monday.

In better news, defender Nick Haynes is a chance to return to the GIANTS line up this week after missing the match against Carlton with groin soreness.

Ruckman Andrew Phillips is expected to miss another week with a shoulder injury but will be available for the NEAFL finals the following week.
