This weekend will see the GIANTS celebrate the 13,480 members who helped us break our all-time membership record in 2015.

As part of the celebrations the players will wear a specially-designed jumper featuring the names of the almost 3000 foundation members of the club who are celebrating their five-year membership milestone.

This year marks five years since Team GWS was formed and foundation members are considered those who have continued their membership from 2011, the year before the GIANTS entered the AFL, right up until this season.

The players will wear the specially-designed jumper with 2893 names on it during the GIANTS’ round 22 match against Carlton at Spotless Stadium on Saturday.

One of the very first GIANTS was Cooper Crowe who was registered as a foundation member in 2011 before he was even born. Baby Crowe was signed up by his parents Matt and Laila and all three have their names on the jumper.

Cooper came down to GIANTS training to meet another original GIANT and have a kick around with Tommy Bugg whose name is on the back of the jumper along with Cooper’s.

Other original GIANTS and current players Jeremy Cameron, Dylan Shiel, Adam Treloar, Curtly Hampton, Nathan Wilson, Jacob Townsend, Andrew Phillips, Tim Golds and Sam Schulz also feature on the jumper.

Along with Bugg, all 10 players arrived at the club before 2011 and have watched the club change and grow over the past five years.

The club’s inaugural coach, Kevin Sheedy, is on the jumper, along with Chairman Tony Shepherd AO and CEO David Matthews.

Deputy Chairman Joseph Carrozzi and fellow board members Christine Cawsey AM, Peter Taylor and Gabrielle Trainor are all foundation GIANTS members.

21 other GIANTS football and administration staff are on the jumper, including the club’s first-ever employee and senior assistant coach Al McConnell and GM of Football Graeme Allan.

ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr and ACT Government Minister Shane Rattenbury are also proudly on the jumper.

There will be a pre-match lap of honour at Spotless Stadium on Saturday to celebrate those members who joined up in 2011. This game is a chance for the club to say thank you to every single GIANTS member who has helped build our club.

The GIANTS play Carlton in the final home game of the year at Spotless Stadium on August 29 at 1.45pm.
