Young defenders Aidan Corr and Matt Buntine are the latest players to commit to the GIANTS with the duo signing contract extensions with the club.

The two 21-year-olds follow in the footsteps of Stephen Coniglio, Dylan Shiel, Jeremy Cameron, Devon Smith and Will Hoskin-Elliott in recently re-signing.

Corr, who has played 27 AFL games, has signed a two-year contract extension to the end of 2018.

With 26 games behind him, Buntine was out of contract at the end of this season but has re-committed until the end of 2017.

With injuries to key defenders Phil Davis, Joel Patfull and Tim Mohr this season, the duo have cemented spots in the GIANTS’ back six.

Buntine was selected by the GIANTS at pick five in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft. Injuries curtailed his first few years in the AFL after making his debut in round eight, 2012.

2015 has been Buntine’s most consistent season yet, playing 10 games in a row before missing round 17 with concussion.

Buntine said he’s thrilled to re-sign for another two years.

“I’m really happy here in Sydney and the club has been so good to me over the last four years,” he said.

“I’ve got really good friends up here, I can see us going a long way and I want to be part of the big future we are building.

“With so many of my good friends already re-committing to the GIANTS, it shows that everyone is buying into the culture and this is where I want to be."

Corr arrived at the GIANTS with pick 14 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft. He made his debut in round six, 2013 and has made 13 appearances in 2015.

After a shoulder injury ruined his 2014 season, Corr has taken on some of the AFL’s best key forwards this year with his aggressive defensive play cementing a spot in the GIANTS’ backline.

Corr said he jumped at the chance to remain at the GIANTS long-term.

“I enjoy every day I’m here at the GIANTS so it was an easy decision for me to extend my contract when it was offered to me,” he said.

“Everyone plays football to win flags and I think in a few years we can go all the way.

“That’s why we are all here playing footy at the GIANTS and I believe we’re building something special.”

GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said Buntine and Corr are key members of the GIANTS' future.

“They’re both terrific young men and we’re delighted to have them remain at the GIANTS,” Matthews said.

“We’ve had a long list of players re-sign with the GIANTS this year, as well as our most successful season on the field with nine wins so far, a new membership record and our first sell-out crowd.

“We continue to grow as a club both on and off-field and it’s terrific our playing group are buying into this.”

GIANTS coach Leon Cameron said the re-signings were another significant milestone for club.

“Matthew and Aidan have been very impressive this season as key members of our back line. It’s fantastic to have these two re-commit to the GIANTS and it is a great endorsement of the culture we’re building.”
