A potent forward line performance led by Jon Patton has helped the UWS GIANTS to a 97-point win over the Brisbane Lions reserves on Saturday.

The UWS GIANTS were spoiled for choice when it came to tall targets with Patton, James Stewart and Cam McCarthy all performing well up front in a one-sided affair.

UWS GIANTS coach Brett Hand said it wasn’t only the big men who were damaging on the scoreboard.

“We took 24 marks inside our forward 50 which was a really good number,” Hand said.

“There were 13 different goal kickers so to have that spread and share the load was really pleasing considering we didn’t just rely on one person.

“Jacob Townsend popped up and took a couple of really good contested marks and Dylan Addison and Sam Reid also pitched in.

“We moved the ball really well from end to end and our attack of the footy was fantastic for basically the whole match.”

Best on ground went to Jacob Townsend who finished the match with 25 touches, seven marks, six tackles and two goals.

Midfielders Paul Ahern and Jake Barrett continued their good form while Nathan Wilson, Caleb Marchbank and Tommy Bugg were reliable in defence.

Key forward Jon Patton took another big step in his recovery, playing virtually the whole game up forward.

“Jonny Patton played about 92 per cent of the match which was fantastic,” Hand said.

“He moved up the ground, took 10 strong marks and finished with five goals which is another great step for him to take.”

Next week the UWS GIANTS travel to Wagga Wagga to play Eastlake at Robertson Oval.
