Emerging defender Nick Haynes will miss the next 1-2 weeks with groin soreness ahead of the GIANTS’ match against Richmond at the MCG on Saturday.

Haynes, who has been a standout performer in the GIANTS' back-six this season, also missed the club's round 10 win over Brisbane due to a similar groin complaint.

GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce said the injury is being managed on a week-by-week basis.

“Unfortunately Nick has some groin soreness so he hasn’t been able to train as much as we would like,” Joyce said.

“It’s been bothering him over the last month so we’re taking a long-term strategy in respect to his load management.

"At present he’s in a stage where we need to work on his strength and not aggravate his symptoms."

The 23-year-old has played 38 games for the GIANTS since being selected with pick seven in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft.

In better news, forward Adam Tomlinson will return through the NEAFL following a 12-week stint on the sideline with a ruptured toe ligament while Jacob Townsend has also recovered from a hamstring strain.

Midfielder Stephen Coniglio is a chance to return this week after injuring his AC Joint against Collingwood in round 11.

Coniglio will face a test on his injured shoulder ahead of team selection on Thursday.

Andrew Phillips and Tom Scully are both available for selection after withdrawing late from the GIANTS’ clash with North Melbourne a fortnight ago.

Key forward Jon Patton and defender Tim Mohr continue their recovery from knee injuries while defenders Phil Davis (ankle) and Joel Patfull (ribs) remain in the rehab group. Shane Mumford continues his recovery from ankle surgery a fortnight ago.
