Several GIANTS are edging closer to a return with Rhys Palmer and Jacob Townsend re-joining the main training group.

Palmer has been sidelined for a month after hurting his shoulder against the Gold Coast in round four while Townsend is yet to play a game this season after sustaining a foot injury during the NAB Challenge series.

Small forward Liam Sumner is expected to return for the UWS GIANTS through the NEAFL next week following consecutive foot and wrist injuries.

Meanwhile defender Tim Mohr will have surgery tomorrow after re-rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee earlier this month.

In good news, midfielder Sam Schulz successfully made his comeback through the NEAFL after having hip surgery in the off-season.

Jon Patton (knee), Lachie Plowman (elbow) and Adam Tomlinson (toe) remain in the rehab group and are expected to return to the field in the coming weeks.

The GIANTS' next match is against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Saturday as part of the 2015 Indigenous Round.
