GIANTS star Jeremy Cameron produced his “best four-quarter performance” on Saturday night against Gold Coast, coach Leon Cameron says.

The GIANTS spearhead joined forces with fellow forward Cam McCarthy to lead the club to a record 11-goal win over Gold Coast.

McCarthy kicked five goals from 18 possessions while Cameron, although again wasteful in front of goal, booted four from 21 touches.

The 2013 All Australian could have grown his tally but finished with 4.6, and while disappointed with his side’s finishing, coach Leon Cameron was rapt with his key targets and the depth of forward options.

“I thought that was Jeremy’s best four-quarter performance. The challenge Jeremy has in his football is to get that 15 to 18 possessions every game, not just rely on six or seven and try to hit the scoreboard,” Cameron said post-match.

“There’s no doubt Cam McCarthy has come on in leaps and bounds in his first four real games of AFL. His workrate is the most pleasing thing, for a 19-year-old kid to kick five goals is just terrific.

“We’re not just relying on one person and we never want to. We really want to make sure there’s five or six forwards that come into every match that are a threat to the opposition.”

A dominant midfield unit gave McCarthy and Cameron plenty of opportunities, the GIANTS had 169 more possessions than the Suns, and their running power was again on display in the nation’s capital.

Dylan Shiel was a star with a game-high 39 possessions, while Ryan Griffen (29), Tom Scully (28), Adam Treloar and Stephen Coniglio (both 27), also racked up the numbers for GWS.

The GIANTS kicked goals in bundles and ran the Suns off their feet.

“The style of play that we played tonight is the style of play that we want to play, and that is using our legs and using our run,” Cameron said.

“When we feel as though we play that, especially for four quarters, then we’re a threat to anyone in the competition. We’ve got some running power that we put on display tonight and we want to bring that every week.”

GWS takes on West Coast in Perth next week for a chance to move to 4-1 for the season, with a chance of playing finals footy now a real possibility.

“We’ve pushed the envelope this year in terms of our fourth pre-season. We feel as though we’re in really good shape, but it’s a huge challenge,” Cameron said.

“We understand that they’ve had the wood over us pretty easily in the last three years, so it’s an opportunity … it’s going to be tough but we’re starting to gain some confidence and some momentum.”
