1. GIANT result for GWS

The record-setting victory - the 66-point result was the club's largest winning margin in its history - has lifted the GIANTS to a 3-1 win-loss record and consolidated its position in the top eight after four rounds. While it is only April, the manner in which the GIANTS completely dismantled their opponents with an even spread of goalkickers, strong work at the clearances and a hard-running midfield that overwhelmed their opponents, will raise expectations that 2015 will be the year the league's newest expansion club breaks through for a September berth.

2. Gold Coast still searching for first win

For much of 2014, it was the Suns that looked the most likely of the pair to make the finals first, given they won seven of their opening nine games and were inside the top eight at 9-5 with seven rounds remaining. However, the club struggled after it lost captain Gary Ablett for the season with a shoulder injury and won just one more game for the year. And with Ablett's return uncertain, the club is still searching for not just its first win of 2015 after an 0-4 start, it is also looking for a way to win without its captain. The Suns have won just one of the 14 games where Ablett hasn't played.

3. Cameron a one-man highlights reel

Jeremy Cameron was a handful for the Suns defenders throughout the night. The 22-year-old finished the night with four goals (and could have had a few more given he also booted six behinds), 20-plus disposals for the first time in his AFL career and helped put his teammates clear in front of goal with a clever handball or touch on several occasions. The big man also wowed the crowd, and the match commentators, with an audacious bicycle kick in the third term that only just missed being goal of the year.

4. GIANTS discover winning way for Canberra

In a turnaround from recent seasons, Canberra is proving a happy hunting ground for the GIANTS in 2015, with the club a perfect two from two so far this year with victories over the Gold Coast and Melbourne in round two. And GWS has a chance to make it three wins from as many matches in round 17 when the club hosts Geelong in a Saturday afternoon fixture. In the previous three years, GWS had won just one from nine matches in the nation's capital.

5. Security beefed up on ANZAC Day

Given the events of the past week as police arrested five men in counter-terrorism raids in Melbourne for planning a terrorist attack on ANZAC Day, it was not surprising there was a visible security presence at StarTrack Oval for the match. In addition to the usual bag search, patrons entering the ground were subject to metal detectors and one cameraman was told he could not bring his chair into the ground.
