The GIANTS have made just one change to the team for their first-ever ANZAC Day clash against the Suns at StarTrack Oval, Canberra.

Young forward James Stewart comes into the side for his fifth AFL game with the 21-year old replacing ruckman Andrew Phillips who’s been omitted.

The 2012 number 27 draft pick played the last three games of the 2014 season, impressing as he kicked three goals in the first half against the Western Bulldogs in Round 23.

Stewart battled glandular fever pre-Christmas and then picked up a minor hamstring injury which kept him out of the second half of the NAB Challenge but he has played the past two rounds for the UWS GIANTS.

Cameron said he’s confident Stewart is ready to return to the AFL side.

“James hasn’t had the greatest luck but in his last two months, he’s started to train fully, play fully, he’s probably played four or five games now and he gets a great opportunity to play on ANZAC Day this Saturday.”

Cameron said it was good to have consistency within the AFL team and strong competition for spots every week.

“Guys like Curtly Hampton, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Jed Lamb, Matthew Buntine, Adam Kennedy, just to name a few, have been performing really, really well in the NEAFL and when they get their opportunity at AFL level, I’m sure they don’t want to give it up,” he said.

Cameron said it will be a special day for the GIANTS to play on ANZAC Day for the first time.

“It’s just a privilege for us to get that opportunity against the Gold Coast Suns at our home at StarTrack Oval in Canberra,” Cameron said.

“We were there two weeks ago, the noise and the atmosphere created by the GIANTS supporters was fantastic. The crowd got really involved.

“It’d be fantastic for our supporters to come out and witness a fantastic opportunity to play on ANZAC Day.

“It’s going to be a great game, the Suns are back in form - they probably should have won last week against the Cats - and clearly that’s going to give them great confidence.

“They’ve had the wood over us, particularly the last two years, so hopefully we can turn the tables on Saturday.”

The GIANTS play the Gold Coast Suns at StarTrack Oval, Canberra on Saturday April 25 at 5.40pm. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
