Everyone knows GIANTS players are talented footballers but how much do you really know about their lives off the field?

Here are five things you didn’t know about our co-captain Callan Ward:

1) Fifa favourite – We have an ongoing Fifa competition here at the GIANTS and I’m actually ranked first at the moment. I’ve got Kenners (Adam Kennedy) and Bunts (Matt Buntine) close behind me though.

2) Like father, like son – I wear the same number as my dad and also my grandfather who used to captain South Melbourne back in the day. The number 8 jumper is something I’d also eventually like to pass down myself.

3) Spanish speaker – I’m currently taking Spanish lessons with Stephen Coniglio in my spare time. It was a culture shock at first, but I’m slowly getting better.

4) Terrific twin – Not many people know but I’m actually a twin. I also have two other sisters and bizarrely they are both born on the same day, just a few years apart. It makes remembering birthdays pretty easy.

5) Former gymnast – When I was younger my dad once told me James Hird used to do gymnastics so I took up the sport to be like him. One day at Spotty Oval I walked on my hands from the goal line to the centre square.

This regular series of player stories aims to bring GIANTS fans closer to their heroes by giving a snap-shot into their private lives.
