The PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy has claimed the upper-hand over their cross-town rivals, beating the Sydney Swans Academy in both the Under-16 and Under-18 age groups in Game 1 of the AFL NSW/ACT Academy series.

The academy sides clashed at Blacktown International SportsPark on Sunday in the first of a two-match series designed to prepare players for upcoming state selections.

The GIANTS’ Under-16 side comfortably won their match by 93 points (110-17) while the GIANTS' Under-18 team also impressed, winning by 16 points (79-53).

PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy coach Jason Saddington said he was pleased with how quickly the players gelled after just one night in camp.

“This was the first time we had all our players in one spot with a number of them traveling from our regional PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy centres,” Saddington said.

“It was pleasing to see everyone come together so quickly and perform so well after just one training.

“It’s really set the standard for the series and we’ll be looking for the same output in the next game.”

Saddington said there were a number of contributors in the Under-16s win but highlighted the impressive performances of Jarrod Brander, Charlie Spargo and Albury ruckman Alex Paech.

In the Under-18 match it was Matthew Kennedy who led the way with four goals while Jock Cornell, Harrison Himmelberg, Matthew Flynn and William Muir all impressed.

The GIANTS’ Under-18 side will play their second and final match against the Swans Academy in Canberra on Saturday, while the Under-16s next game will take place on May 24.
