Young midfielder Toby Greene is the latest young star to commit to the GIANTS, signing a contract extension until the end of 2018.

Greene, 21, has played 53 games for the GIANTS since he was selected with pick 11 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft. He was contracted until the end of 2015 and has re-signed for another three years.

A prolific ball winner, Greene averaged 28 disposals in the 15 games he played in 2014 including a career high 42 disposals against Collingwood in round 22.

And in further good news, young defender Tim Golds has also extended his contract until the end of 2016. Golds has played six games since he joined the club as a priority selection in 2011.

Recruited from Oakleigh Chargers, Greene burst on to the AFL scene in 2012 winning a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination and finishing second in the Kevin Sheedy Medal in his debut season.

Since then he has established himself in the GIANTS senior line-up. He was suspended by the club for five matches during 2014 but fought his way back into the side and finished the season in career best form.

Greene told GIANTS TV he had no hesitation in extending his contract for another three years.

“It was an easy decision in the end. I didn’t have any aspirations to be playing anywhere else and it’s an exciting time coming up,” he said. "I’ve got some of my best mates here and it’s awesome seeing them every day and we enjoy each other’s company.

“I definitely want to be around here while we’re winning and if we can get our core group of boys to sign, I think we all know we’re going somewhere and everyone is pretty keen to stay around."

His contract extension follows the re-signings of Adam Tomlinson, Jon Patton, Nick Haynes, Josh Kelly, Adam Kennedy, Rory Lobb, James Stewart, Andrew Phillips, Cameron McCarthy, Tom Downie and Jake Barrett.

General Manager Football Graeme Allan said the club was delighted with the decision by Greene and Golds to commit to the club.

“Toby has become an integral part of the team but also admired around the club for his competitiveness and the way he goes about his football," he said.

"He has also shown a lot of character to fight his way back after an off-field issue this year and regain the respect of his teammates with his attitude on and off the field.

"While he has only played six games so far, Tim has a bright future and will have plenty of opportunities to establish a senior position in the years to come.

"Their decision to re-commit is another strong endorsement of the club and the direction we are heading in as we prepare for what we believe will be a big year in 2015.

"We have a first class training facility at Sydney Olympic Park, a strong football program, a tight knit playing group and staff and we are building towards success in the coming seasons."
