The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS congratulate Andrew Barr on his election as ACT Chief Minister.

GIANTS Chairman Tony Shepherd said: “We wish Andrew all the best in his new position as Chief Minister of the ACT and look forward to continuing to work closely with him.

“As Sports Minister he has been a strong supporter of AFL in Canberra and instrumental in securing a 10-year agreement for the GIANTS to play four games a year in the national capital.

“This has helped drive significant economic and tourism benefits for Canberra and these will only grow in the years to come. This year four players from Canberra were also drafted to AFL clubs, including Belconnen’s Jack Steele to the GIANTS.

“Next year Canberra will have its strongest AFL fixture ever, starting with the NAB Challenge match between the GIANTS and the Swans on March 22, and including the first ANZAC Day match in the nation’s capital between the GIANTS and the Gold Coast Suns.

"We look forward to playing at our home ground StarTrack Oval Canberra in 2015 and continuing to give something back to the people of Canberra through our community programs."
