The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS are proud to support White Ribbon Day to put a stop to violence against women.

White Ribbon is Australia’s only national, male led campaign to end men's violence against women. One woman a week in Australia is killed as a result of intimate partner violence, one in five Australian women experience harassment in the workplace and one in five women over the age of 18 will be stalked in their lifetime.

November 25 is White Ribbon Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

White Ribbon Day also signals the start of the 16 Days of Activism to Stop Violence against Women, which ends on Human Rights Day (10 December).

Co-captain and White Ribbon Ambassador Callan Ward said the GIANTS are proud to support White Ribbon and the work they do to eliminate violence against women.

“As a brother and son I am pleased the GIANTS can do our bit to support this very important cause,” Ward said.

“We want to encourage other Australian men to join us in telling the community that any sort of violence against women is simply unacceptable."

?The GIANTS are proud supporters of White Ribbon and the Sydney Derbies against the Swans are played for the White Ribbon Cup.

The White Ribbon Cup was launched at the inaugural Sydney Derby in Round 1, 2012.

The next White Ribbon Cup will be played in Round 3 at the SCG between the GIANTS and the Swans on Saturday April 18, 2015.

On Tuesday the GIANTS will join the local community as part of a march down Haldon Street in Lakemba to create awareness of White Ribbon Day.

GIANTS Football Operations Manager Simon Katich, Chief Operating Officer Richard Griffiths and staff will join the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in the walk to Parry Park in Punchbowl. Registration is at the corner of Gillies and Haldon Streets in Lakemba at 5.45pm for a 6pm start.

More than 300 people participated in the event last year and the theme this year is ‘Drum Out Violence Against Women’ with different drumming groups playing throughout the march.

In 2014 White Ribbon are launching a unified social media message to spread the word that violence against women must end. To get involved, visit: http://www.whiteribbon.org.au/thunderclap/
