GIANTS director and inaugural coach Kevin Sheedy is confident the club will retain its young stars as it pushes towards finals in the coming seasons.

“Most of the boys have settled in really well and know they’ve already done the hard yards,” he said, referring to Jeremy Cameron, Dylan Shiel and Adam Treloar who joined the club in 2011.

“It’s very important for everyone to understand that while we might lose one, or two, or three (players) … we did have 55 on the list and we’ve got to get that number down anyway.

“We want to retain the ones we really believe we need to have a chance to get ourselves into the finals. As a club that’s the responsibility we take on.”

Sheedy described the decision to trade Tom Boyd for ex-Western Bulldogs captain Ryan Griffen as a “win-win” for both clubs.

“We get a four-year player (in Griffen) who’s got leadership skills and can play football along with pick six,” Sheedy said.

“Boyd has the capabilities to be a top class forward if he trains well and dedicates himself. We’ll probably get something like 12 years each out of the whole trade so it’s a bit of a win-win for both clubs I would say.”

Sheedy said the GIANTS could win up to 10 games next year, a significant increase on the six victories celebrated in 2014.

In addition to Ryan Griffen, the GIANTS also acquired former Brisbane Lions defender Joel Patfull and secured three of the first seven selections in next month’s NAB AFL Draft.
