Greater Western Sydney GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews has been appointed Vice President of the Sydney Business Chamber’s Western Sydney Regional Advisory Committee.

Matthews said he welcomed the opportunity to help advance the interests of Western Sydney through his new role.

“Western Sydney is one of the most important regions of Australia and the GIANTS want to play an increasing advocacy role to highlight the opportunities and needs of its communities," Matthews said.

Matthews was previously on the AFL Executive for over 10 years prior to joining the GIANTS as CEO in 2011. The club entered the AFL competition in March 2012 and has over 13,000 members.

“The GIANTS and the AFL are actively investing in the region, creating jobs and connecting with local communities and these connections continue to grow," he said.

"We want to create a great club like no other that delivers best family entertainment and wins premierships but also enriches the lives of the people in Western Sydney and broader communities.”

Western Sydney Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, David Borger, said  the sporting landscape in Western Sydney continued to grow with the development of new clubs like the GIANTS.

"The GIANTS are a significant business and have brought new opportunities for Western Sydney. We welcome somebody of David's skills and experience and look forward to his contribution."
