The GIANTS have shortlisted 10 PM Capital GIANTS Academy players as potential bid selections for the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

The AFL yesterday revealed the names of 35 draft-eligible players to come out of the club academies in New South Wales and Queensland.

PM Capital GIANTS Academy players selected include; Logan Austin (Belconnen), Nicholas Coughlin (Albury Tigers), Thomas Faul, Jeremy Finlayson (Sydney Hills Eagles), Liam Griffiths, Brydan Hodgson (Lavington/Murray Bushrangers), Dougal Howard (Albury Tigers), Mitchell Mahady, Michael Mattingly (Corowa-Rutherglen) and Jack Steele (Belconnen).

The players selected are eligible to be taken at the Father/Son and Academy Bidding meeting on Monday, October 6.

PM Capital GIANTS Academy coach Mark McVeigh said he hoped several of the players would find their way onto the GIANTS list next season.

“The players that have been selected certainly have the potential to make it at AFL level,” McVeigh said.

“I’d love nothing more than to see two or more of the boys in GIANTS colours next year… they all have great attitudes and possess qualities that would fit in well at the club.”

McVeigh said midfielder Jack Steele and utility Jeremy Finlayson are two academy players who have potential to be high draft picks.

“Jack had an outstanding Under-18 carnival and was voted MVP by the coaches," McVeigh said

“He has been in the program a long time and showed some great form this season after missing the National Championships last year through injury.

“Jeremy Finlayson is another player to watch, he's quite raw but has a great kick and strong hands. There's no telling how good he could be.”

Last year the GIANTS drafted Jake Barrett as a NSW zone selection while Zac Williams, another former PM Capital GIANTS Academy graduate, was picked up by the club in 2012.
