Hailing from a small town in Ireland called Caven, Nick Walsh has travelled the world in pursuit of a career as a Professional Footballer and Coach.
As a Gaelic Footballer in Ireland, Walsh was introduced to AFL Football after being drafted as an ‘International Rookie” in 2000 to the Melbourne FC. He had previously captained his country in the Under-17 International Rules Series against Australia.
Unfortunately three years of persistent injuries prevented Walsh from transitioning successfully to the Australian game. He returned home to play as an Amateur player in the GAA for his County for another eight years. During this time Nick also worked for the GAA at Croke Park in Dublin as a Game Development Manager.
Walsh joined the GIANTS in 2011 in the area of Strength and Conditioning and has subsequently transitioned into coaching and development as the NEAFL Backline Coach. He now works across the areas of Development and Rehabilitation. He is currently completing his Masters in Performance (Strength and Conditioning).
In 2013-14 Walsh worked with the Irish International Rules team as their Performance Coach.
Walsh took over the role of interim backline coach for the 2016 AFL season.
